Edna Pagones


 Edna Pagones, age 88, passed away at Rutland Regional Medical Center on June 12, 2008.
Edna was born on March 29, 1920 in Granville, NY the daughter of Patrick and Anna (Powers) McGrath.
Edna was a 1936 graduate of Granville High School. She graduated from Mildred Elley School and returned to Granville where she worked as a bookkeeper for several local businesses. Eventually she went to work for the Washington County Department of Social Services where she retired as Supervisor of the Medicaid program.
Edna was extremely proud of her son Peter, who became a Priest and currently serves in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany. Edna always enjoyed cooking and the more people she cooked for the better she liked it.  She was very active in local politics. She was a driving force in the Democratic Committee in Granville. She held many positions within the Democratic Committee such as Town Chairman, County Treasurer of the committee, Alternate to the State Committee and the Women’s Dinner Club of Granville. Edna was excited that in her lifetime she got to see a woman run for President, and better yet a democrat. She was a lifetime communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Granville.
Edna was predeceased by her husband Nick P. Pagones in 2006. She is also predeceased by two infant children, Daphne and Nick, four brothers: Edward, Walter, Harold and John and four sisters: Loretta McLaughlin, Alice Arthur, Anna Kaplan and Helen Jeffreys. Survivors are her son, Rev. Peter Pagones of Schenectady, a brother Richard McGrath and his wife Muriel of Whitehall and several nieces and nephews.
A  Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 16, 2008 at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 23 Bulkley Ave. Granville with the Rev. Peter Pagones presiding. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Middle Granville. Friends may call on Sunday, June 15, 2008 from 4-8 PM at the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St. Granville, NY.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church, 23 Bulkley Ave., Granville, NY. 12832.
