Everest Tatko, 76

E verest Tatko passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 30, 2010, at his home.

Evey was born on Oct. 16, 1923, in West Rutland, Vt., the son of Peter and Stephania (Socinski) Tatko.

Evey was the former owner of Hilltop Slate in Middle Granville. He was a World War II veteran and a 60-year member of the American Legion. Evey was also a member of the Knight of Columbus and the last charter member of the Granville Lions Club.

Evey was predeceased by his wife, Lena Mae (Roberts) Tatko, three brothers, John, Michael and Remus Tatko, and two sisters, Agnes Guy and Helen Holmes.

Survivors are his two sons, Robert Tatko and his wife, Sarah, of Granville and Raymond W. Tatko and his wife, Karen, of Wells, Vt., and a daughter, Jeanne George and her husband, Glen, of Margaretville. Evey is also survived by two brothers, Edward Tatko and his wife, Louise, and Paul Tatko and his wife, Edith, all of Middle Granville. In addition Evey was blessed with five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 23 Bulkley Ave., Granville. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery in Middle Granville. Calling hours were held Tuesday at the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville.
