Ella Lyons, 85

Ella Lyons, 85, formerly of South Williams Street, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at the Orchard Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Granville where she was a resident for the past 11 years.

Born on April 24, 1925, in West Rutland, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Ella (Packard) Bardwell.

Ella was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She was a communicant of Notre Dame des Victories Church (Our Lady of Hope) of Whitehall.

She was an avid seamstress enjoying sewing for her family and in later years, doing alterations and dressmaking for the public.

She was a regular volunteer for the local Meals-on-Wheels program where she helped deliver meals and friendly conversation to local shut-ins. She always enjoyed people and most will remember her engaging smile and pleasant demeanor. She was always ready for a bit of gossip. In her early days at the Orchard, she appointed herself the “welcoming committee” and could be found greeting new arrivals with a cheerful face and reassuring words.

Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Richard, of 52 years and an infant son, John Paul Lyons.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Atwood and her husband, Michael of Hampton; a son, Timothy Lyons and his wife, Terry of Hampton; seven grandchildren, Michael Atwood and his wife, Mashell, of Hudson Falls, Ethan Atwood and his wife, Lauren, of Silver Springs, Md., Darcie Parrott and her husband, Alan, of West Haven, Vt.; Jarod Lyons and his wife, Stacy, of Whitehall, Marty, and Rebecca and Lyndsey Lyons of Hampton; and four great-grandchildren, Britney and Timothy Lyons and Sierra and Matthew Evans.

A private family service is planned. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial donations be made in Ella’s name to Our Lady of Hope Church, 9 Wheeler Ave., Whitehall, N.Y. 12887

The family would like to thank the staff of The Orchard Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful service and care they provided during the eleven years Ella was a resident and special thank you to CNA Charlotte Goodreau, for watching over Ella and being her friend.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Jillson Funeral Home, Inc., 46 Williams St., Whitehall.
