I s your chocolate treat championship quality?
Take a break from shoveling and head into the kitchen because Friday the Friends of the Pember Library are offering the chance for chocolate immortality. Well, maybe not immortality but certainly bragging rights as the first-ever “Chocolate Lovers’ Delight Contest” will be held Friday evening at the West Main Street library.
The Pember invites anyone and everyone to participate in the “Chocolate Lovers’ Delight Contest” comparing myriad decadent treats – as long as they contain chocolate.
Judging will take place Friday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. Entries can be dropped off at the Pember between 5 and 6 p.m. before the contest.
Entry into the chocolate lovers contest is free.
“It can be cakes, pies, cookies, candies, even soup if you’ve got a good recipe for it – as long as it involves chocolate,” librarian Ardyce Bresett said last Friday.
Contestants can submit their most delicious and irresistible homemade chocolate creations to see how they stack up against all comers. “We’re looking forward to it because it sounds like its going to be fun,” she said.
Anything chocolate can be submitted and prizes will be awarded to the winning entries, Bresett said. Entrants are asked to sign up in advance, if possible.
This contest is one way to keep people coming into the library.
“We just kind of bat ideas around all the time; I guess all of us came up with the idea,” Bresett said.
Those who don’t wish to enter can still join the fun watching the judging of all of the mouth-watering entries. Door prizes will be given out and patrons will get a chance to win other prizes by showing off their chocolate knowledge by answering trivia questions.
Coffee and tea will be served during the judging and will come in handy for what comes next – selling the treats to the spectators. The donated goodies will be sold to the hungry patrons to satisfy their sweet tooth after prizes are awarded, and the funds will go to help the Pember.
“People will bring enough because they know we’re going to sell it at the end, so at least come by and buy something good,” Bresett said.
As has been something of a problem for any scheduling this winter, Bresett said in the case of a snowstorm, people can call the library at 642-2525 to see if the contest will be postponed.
