Edward J. Breznick Sr., 86

Mr. Edward J. Breznick Sr., 86, died Saturday morning, Feb. 12, 2011, at Indian River Nursing home in Granville.

He was born April 5, 1924, in Mineville, the son of the late Frank and Bernice (Terczak) Breznick.

Edward was a graduate of Poultney (Vt.) High School, Class of 1942.

After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II.

He was a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church and the American Legion J. Claire Carmody Post No. 37 of Poultney.

Edward was employed by General Electric Co. in Rutland, Vt., working in the Forge Department, retiring in 1986.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Barbaro) Breznick, whom he married in Middle Granville in 1948; by his son, Edward J. Breznick Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Poultney, Vt.; by his daughter, Paula Jean Skelley and her husband, Michael of Albany; by his brother, Frank Breznick of South Poultney, Vt.; by his four granddaughters: Jenn Skelley, Jill Skelley, Amie Kirschenbaum and Kristi Breznick; by his great-grandson, Jett Kirschenbaum, and also by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his two brothers, Stanley and Walter Breznick, and by his sisters, Bernice Breznick, Jenny Kuruc, Alice Cembalski, Sophie Fialkovich and Helen Kopchick.

Visitation were held on Monday, Feb. 14, at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, located at 266 Allen Ave., Poultney, Vt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 11 a.m. at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Sean Patrick Dowling, parish priest, will be the celebrant. Burial will be at a later date in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Granville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Vermont Chapter at 300 Cornerstone Drive, Suite 128, Williston, Vt. 05495 or St. Raphael’s Catholic Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home.

    My father knew the Breznick family well and always spoke very highly with great respect about them. We lived on the South Poultney Road when I was a boy and would often drive by their home.
