A fine finale

K elsie Benjamin has had one heck of a year.

The senior won nearly every track meet she entered, including the Wasaren League Championships, the Section II championships and state qualifiers.

On Friday, she competed in the shot put event at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships at Caledonia High School.

Although she was unable to take home the top prize, her throw of 37 feet and two inches was good for a fourth place finish.

Her performance, and demeanor, earned Benjamin the Section II Sportsmanship award.

Uzoamaka Aniagba Valley Stream North High School won the event with a throw of 41 feet and one quarter inch.

Benjamin had previously finished fifth as a sophomore and eleventh this winter at the indoor track and field championships.

Benjamin, who is the class valedictorian, will attend the University of Vermont in the fall where she will compete on the schools track and field team.
