Have you ever wondered what happened at the last village board meeting or wanted to get a hold of Mayor Telisky? Or maybe you wanted to know more about what’s going on in Whitehall? Soon, you will be able to find all that information and more in a centralized location without leaving the comfort of your own home.
Village trustee Marge Mohn proposed the creation of a municipal website last month that and has begun to move forward with the project.
When complete, the site will provide a variety of community related information and will help bring Whitehall into the 21st century.
“It will be something people can go to and find information on Whitehall,” Mohn said.
The site would be a sort of clearing house for everything Whitehall related.
Mohn said she envisions the site having a variety of information ranging from the contact information of board members and the minutes from village board meetings to interesting facts and photos of Whitehall.
“Pretty much anything Whitehall related,” she said.
The website would also include links to other websites people may find of interest, such as the Washington County municipal site, and local organizations that have their own websites; the Grace Baptist Church, the Whitehall Police Department and the Chamber of Commerce are a few that come to mind.
Mohn would also like to have the Whitehall site linked to the county site.
“If you go to the county website, Whitehall has nothing,” she said.
The creation of a website would help fill a void lacking in the community and the county in general.
Of the nine villages in Washington County, only Argyle, Cambridge and Hudson Falls have municipal websites. That number increases when you factor in towns, but nearly half (eight of 17) still lack a website, including Granville, Dresden, and Putnam.
Mohn said she would be glad to include the town as part of an all encompassing website, and offered them an opportunity to be included on the website during last month’s town board meeting, but as of yet, has not heard a decision.
Mohn said the website requires about $100 up front and less than that to maintain the site.
The site should be complete later this summer.
“I think it will be a good thing for Whitehall.”
