George R. Osborne, 71

G eorge R. Osborne, 71, passed away on Sunday, Oct.2, 2011 at The Orchard Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre following a long illness.

Bob was born on August 4, 1940 in Granville, New York the son of John W. and Blanche “Evelyn” (Rathbun) Osborne.

Bob’s entire working career was in the oil business. He started working in the family business, Rathbun Coal and Oil. Over the years it was sold and became Granville Gas & Oil, Johnson Fuel, Ultramar and Valero. Bob was employed by each new owner as a fuel deliveryman. Bob loved spending time at his family camp on Lake St. Catherine, and he especially enjoyed boating. He was a devoted son, caring for his mother for many years. Bob was a member of the American Legion and a ten year member of Norton Hose Company.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, and his daughter-in-law Deborah. Survivors are his wife of 45 years Patricia Thomas Osborne, his son John Osborne of Queensbury and his daughter Lori Osborne and her companion Richard Legault of Benson, Vermont. He also leaves behind his faithful cat, Salem.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, Oct. 5 at the Robert M King Funeral Home, 23 Church St. Granville with the Rev. James Peterson officiating. Friends  were able to call Oct. 4, and . Burial followed at the Mettowee Cemetery in Granville.

The family wishes to give a special thanks to Marie Williams, Bob’s cousin and to Bud Davies for their many devoted visits while he was at The Orchard. It meant so much. Also heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at The Orchard and to Dr. Beckler for the wonderful they care gave.

If you wish to remember Bob in a special way, the family has asked that donations may be made to the B wing staff at The Orchard Nursing Centre. The family would like to use these contributions for a gathering to thank them or they can be made to the Foley Cancer Center at Rutland Regional Medical Center, Allen St. Rutland VT 05701.
