Robert (Mike) Martelle, 76

R obert (Mike) Martelle passed away peacefully October 12, 2011 at home where he resided with his sister Shirley and her husband Clarence Gould, Sr., after a battle with lung cancer.

Robert was born September 30, 1935 in Wells, Vermont, the son Frederick and Harriet (Whitney) Martelle.

He attended schools in Wells, Vt. He was employed working road construction for Rossi, Dailey. He was also employed at Danby Marble Quarry, and his last employment was working at Hill Top Slate, Middle Granville, NY for 23 years where he retired at age 62.

Robert enjoyed traveling. He traveled to Virginia with his sister Ella James, and New Mexico with Vera Kelley, he traveled to Las Vegas, New Orleans and several surrounding casinos with Shirley and Clarence Gould. He also traveled to Hawaii, and several trips to Florida with Clarence and Debbie Gould. Robert enjoyed hunting with Clarence, family and friends at the hunting camp. He also enjoyed skinning wire, and going to Devil’s Bowl Speedway with Clarence Jr. Robert loved his four wheeler, Gator and Kubota, and feeding the birds and squirrels.

Robert is survived by his siblings, three  brothers, Phillip Martelle and wife Patricia, Stanley Martelle and wife, Natalie, and Ernest Martelle. Also his four sisters, Rena Tardie, Thelma Hayes, Ella James and husband Laverne and Shirley Gould and husband Clarence. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Robert was predeceased by his parents, Fredrick and Harriet Martelle, brothers Frederick Martelle and Morris Martelle and three sisters, Beatrice Durrum, Vera Kelley and Katherine Hadaway, nephew Ronnie Kelley and several other nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct.r 15, 2011 at the Robert M King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville. Burial will follow at the Wells Cemetery. Friends may call on from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14, at the funeral home.

Upon Robert’s request memorial contributions in his memory may be sent to The American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
