Man arrested for assault

A n illegal immigrant fromMexicowas arrested last week after he allegedly assaulted a woman and was then found to be in possession of false paperwork concerning his immigration status.

Edgar L. Vazquez, 21, was arrested Saturday after he struck a woman following a dispute over a car they had purchased together.

Following an investigation of the incident by the Whitehall Police Department, officers found Vazquez in possession of fake identification cards as well as Social Security cards under a different name.

Vazquez was with four felony counts of second degree possession of a forged instrument as well as third degree assault and second degree unlawful imprisonment, both misdemeanors.

The victim suffered minor facial injuries and a possible concussion.

Vazquez was arraigned and sent to Washington County Jail for lack of $50,000 bail or $100,000 bond.  

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency also filed paperwork to being deportation proceedings.

The arrest was made by Whitehall Police officers Jason Vandenburgh and Desmond Lyons.
