Lorena M. Holcomb, 90

L orena M. Holcomb passed away at The Orchard Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre on Wednesday, November 16, 2011.

Lorena was born on March 4, 1921 in Granville, the daughter of Lawrence and Zoa (Smith) Hoyt.

Lorena was a long time member of the Truthville Baptist Church. When the Truthville Christian Academy was first organized she worked as a teaching assistant.

Lorena came from a large family, and had a large family, and enjoyed all the things that entailed. She loved preparing meals and entertaining with her family and friends. Lorena enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and word puzzles. She looked forward everyday to reading the Post Star cover to cover. She was also an avid birdwatcher.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Lawrence, a son Lawrence W. Holcomb, a daughter Jean Martin and two grandsons Arnold John Fiske and Scott Gaines. She was also predeceased by her siblings: Alice Fogg, Mary Tanner, Clarence, Kenneth, Donald, Rodger and Ralph.

Lorena is survived by her children:  Ernest of Granville, Fred and his wife Harol of Granville, Daryl and his wife Peggy of Granville, Janice Fiske and her husband Chuck of Victory Mills, Donna Purdy and her fiancé Dan Chapin of Hartford, Harriet Holcomb of Castleton, VT, and Dawn Holcomb of Norwich, NY. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Linda of Granville, her sisters: Dorothy Baker of Hartford, Hazel Entholt of Truthville, Betty Harrington of South Glens Falls and Shirley Stanford of Alaska. Lorena was blessed to round out her large family with 28 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Nov. 20 at the Truthville Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin Gebo officiating.  Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in the Elmwood Cemetery, Middle Granville.  Friends may call were able to call Nov. 19
