John F. Ward, 76

John F. (Jack) Ward, Sr., 76, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2011 at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on August 13, 1935 in Fair Haven, Vermont, he was the son of the late Albert and Mae (Woodard) Ward.

Jack married Elizabeth Lortie on May 19, 1958 at the Notre Dame des Victoires Church in Whitehall.

Jack was a carpenter for over 40 years and was very proud in the early years of the structures he helped build which were the Gawett Marble and Granite in West Rutland, Vermont and also the Vermont Apple Orchard storage facility in Hampton, New York. In later years, he became a self-employed carpenter in Whitehall.

He was a member of the B.P.O.E., Lodge No. 1491 of Whitehall and an honorary member of the Whitehall Volunteer Fire Company.

He enjoyed trips to Maine in the summer and was an avid New York Giants and Boston Red Sox fan.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by one sister, Grace Prieur and four brothers, Kenneth Ward, Harold Ward, Malcolm Ward and Robert Ward, who were all of Fair Haven, Vermont.

Besides his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth Ward, of Hudson Falls, he is survived by one daughter, Nancy and her husband, Dr. Robert Greenberg of Danville, California and one son, John Ward, Jr. of Glens Falls; three grandchildren, Scott Greenberg, Abby Greenberg and Jeffrey Greenberg all of Danville, California; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and a special great nephew, Mark Carswell of Whitehall.

Family and friends may call at the Jillson Funeral Home, Inc., 46 Williams Street, Whitehall Wednesday night. A Lodge of Sorrow was conducted by the Elks Lodge, No. 1491.

A prayer service will be conducted on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 11 a.m.  at the funeral home with Rev. Michael Flannery, pastor of Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, officiating.

Interment will be in the spring at Greenmount Cemetery in Whitehall.
