Helene M. McLaughlin, 78, a former resident of Fourth Avenue, passed away on Saturday, Jan.7, 2012 at the Indian River Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Granville following a long illness.
Born on Jan, 31, 1933 in Whitehall, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Helene (Reil) Caputo.
She was a graduate of Whitehall High School, Class of 1950. She was a homemaker and worked several jobs including the Troy Shirtmakers Guild in Whitehall.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post No. 83 of Whitehall.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Edward J. “Squeaky” McLaughlin who she married on April 30, 1954 and who passed away on May 18, 2008; also predeceased by one sister, Theresa Reed of Fair Haven, Vt, one brother, John Caputo and an infant son, David McLaughlin.
She is survived by six children, Gary McLaughlin and his wife, Ingelore of Crown Point, Helen Davis of Whitehall, Pamela Kilmer and her companion, Robert McKee of Whitehall, Kevin McLaughlin and his wife, Bon of Chester, Va, Todd McLaughlin of Richmond, Va, Ann Potter and her husband, Richard of Whitehall; two sisters, Beatrice Gordon of Randolph, Mass and Ann St. Germaine of Plattsburgh; one brother, Francis Caputo of Virginia and 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 10 at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church in Whitehall with Rev. Michael Flannery, Pastor, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
