Jean Buckland Evans, 93, formerly of Pawlet, Vt., died peacefully on January 8, 2012 in Philadelphia, PA.
Mrs. Evans was born in Green Island, NY. She was the daughter of Jean Millar Buckland and Reverend Harold W. Buckland, who was the minister of the United Methodist Church of Granville from 1928-1930.
She graduated from Russell Sage College and then taught at Draper High School in Schenectady.
She was married for 61 years to Hiram J. Evans of Granville, who predeceased her. They lived in Syracuse, NY; Sarasota, FL; and Needham, Mass. before retiring to Pawlet in 1980.
In Pawlet, she opened a traditional rug hooking studio and taught rug hooking for 25 years. She was one of the founding members of the Green Mountain Rug Hooking Guild. She had a love of antiques, books, and politics.
She is survived by four daughters, Susan McDougall of Philadelphia; Rebecca Evans of Mitchellville, Md.; Megan Evans of Glade Hill, Va.; Ann Evans of Potomac, Md.; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
