Girls lost to Fort Edward, Corinth

A turnover marred second half derailed Whitehall’s chances to upset second place Fort Edward last Tuesday.

The Lady Forts used a 19-2 third quarter to send the Railroaders to a 53-26 loss, only their second in the last six games.

Sam Godfrey scored ten points for Fort Edward and teammate Taylor Boucher added nine of her own.

Victoria Christian led Whitehall with seven points, Brittney Putorti scored six points and Rebecca Lavin and Ashleigh Davis each added netted four points.

“It was a tale of two halves,” said head coach Jim Burgey. “I was very happy with the way we played in the first half, but then we came out and I thought we were very flat in the second half.”

The Railroaders only trailed by four points after the first quarter and were still in the game at the half, trailing 23-14. But in the third quarter, Fort Edward stepped up their defensive pressure creating numerous turnovers which they converted into easy baskets.

The Forts were also very efficient shooting the ball, registered double digit scoring in every quarter and making five three point baskets in the game, including three by Boucher.

Whitehall on the other hand struggled all night to maintain possession of the basketball and had trouble beating Fort Edward’s press in the first half which prevented them from setting up their offense.

The Railroaders scored nine points in the first and fourth quarters but managed only seven points total in the other two quarters.
