Man charged with fraud

A Dresden man was arrested on three felony charges last week stemming from allegations that he committed welfare fraud.

George Beadle, 67, was arrested on Friday, March 9, and charged with two counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, welfare fraud in the fourth degree, and grand larceny in the fourth degree following an investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. Each charge is considered to be a felony.

Additional charges are possible.

Beadle is accused of failing to report his wife’s income on a Food Stamps application. He received $3,883 in benefits that he was not entitled to, police said.

He was issued a ticket to appear in the Town of Fort Edward court on March 20.
