The Whitehall Rifle Club cemented its place as champion of the Tri-County Rifle League by defeating Reynolds Road 977-938 last Thursday.

Whitehall was led by John Hollister who fired his second perfect 200 of the season and finished as the league’s top shooter with a sterling average of 197.7.

Jason Pratt had the second-highest score of the night with a 196 and finished the season with an average of 196.8, second-best on the team. Lou Pratt and Pete Steffan contributed a pair of 194s and Brian Hollister was a close fifth with a score of 193.

Dick McMore shot a 192, John Sharp a 191 and Jim McGinnis and Jim Lafayette added a pair of 190s.

In spite of an early-season loss to a very young Galway team, Whitehall bounced back and shot very well, posting five perfect scores, two each by Hollister and Pratt and one by McMore.

Three of the past five seasons, Whitehall has lost the second match of the year to Galway and each time the scores were well below average. Maybe in 2013, the team will get it together a little sooner.

Whitehall’s season high score was 988 and it had a season average of 980.14, its best since 2005.
