A recent graduate of Whitehall High School set a school record earlier this year for the University of Vermont.

Brittany St. Clair, a 2010 graduate of Whitehall High, won the high jump event at the New England Championships held May 12 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at Steinbrenner Stadium.

St. Clair cleared a height of 1.76 meters (5 feet, 9.3 inches), setting a new school record. The previous record had stood for 32 years.

The performance helped lead the Catamounts to a third-place finish.

The event was the final meet of the season for UVM, but select athletes including St. Clair will move on to the NCAA preliminaries May 24-26 in Jacksonville, Fla.

St. Clair is a sophomore at UVM and is majoring in nutrition. She is the daughter of John and Cheri St. Clair.
