Edith F. Ballard, 87

H AMPTON — Edith F. Ballard, 87, of Ballard Road, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2012, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland, Vt.

Born on Feb. 2, 1925, in Whitehall, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Catherine (Rock) Hilder.

She enjoyed reading, baking, arts and crafts, crocheting and also enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens.

In her early years, she enjoyed attending the Vermont State Fair in Rutland and playing bingo.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Donald E. Ballard, who died in 1979, a son, James E. Ballard, and six brothers, Elwood Hilder, Abe Hilder, Frank Hilder, Edward Hilder, George Hilder and Herbert Hilder and one sister, Jennie Rich.

Survivors include her son, Donald W. Ballard and his wife, Donna of Pawlet, Vt., one daughter, Dawn Corey and her husband, Leon of Wells, Vt., sister-in-law, Marion Ballard of Hampton; eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

A prayer service will be conducted on Thursday, June 7, at 1 p.m. at the Jillson Funeral Home, Inc., 46 Williams St., Whitehall, with the Rev. Michael Flannery, pastor of Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, officiating.

Interment will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in Whitehall.

Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, June 7, 2012, from 12 noon to time of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of one’s choice.
