Men arrested for scrap theft from railroad

Two Vermont men were arrested last week for allegedly trying to steal scrap metal on railroad property.

Thomas L. Martin, 27, of Fair Haven, Vt., and Andrew W. Spanos, 25, of Castleton, Vt., were each charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor, and trespassing, a violation.

Police received a report Wednesday of two subjects trespassing on railroad property off Northwest Street. Upon arrival, officers found the two men placing scrap metal they had taken into a vehicle.

Both subjects were issued with tickets to appear in Whitehall Village Court at a later date.

The case was handled by Whitehall Police Chief Matt Dickinson, and Mike Tracy, a special agent with Canadian Pacific Railroad police.
