Armory to host pro boxing next month

P rofessional boxing is coming to Whitehall.

“The Battle of Whitehall” will be held on Friday, Aug. 24, at the Whitehall Athletic Club.

The main title event will feature a female world title bout between pound-for-pound champion Chevelle “Fists of Steel” Hallback against Victoria Cisneros. The two will vie for the WIBA world junior welterweight title. It is a rematch of an eight-round split decision win by Hallback in Albuquerque, N.M., in December 2010.

“We wanted to give the members of our club top entertainment as part of their membership and pro boxing was one of my priorities,” said Greg Gross, promoter and owner of the Whitehall Athletic Club, in a release. “We decided to put on a world title fight as part of the first boxing card to show all potential Whitehall Athletic Club members and boxing fans, both locally and around the world, that we are serious about the club and the quality of all our events. I think the Hallback-Cisneros match-up is proof of that.”

The rest of the card is expected to be announced later this summer.

The Aug. 24 card will be available on www.WhiteHallAthleticClub.com, LDLTV and UStream. Bill Calogero will call the action ringside.
