T he Whitehall Music in the Park summer concert series is kicking into full gear as the Adirondack Fiddlers prepare to grace the Whitehall stage Friday evening.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m., July 27.

The group, which is made up of fiddlers ranging in age from 50 to 80, performs old jigs, reels, and waltzes.

The band was originally formed in 1978 as an informal group of fiddling friends and in 1989 became a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of old-time fiddling and related dancing acts.

The group meets every week throughout the year and during the summer plays local concert series and fairs.

On average, each performance consists of eight to 12 fiddlers and several accompanying musicians.

The concert series continues next month with performances by The Moonlighters (Aug. 3), Enerjazz (Aug. 10), the Rutland City Band (Aug. 17), the Talegatorz (Aug. 24), and Airtight (6:30 p.m. on Aug. 31)

All concerts are held in Riverside Veterans Memorial Park from 7 to 9 p.m. and admission is free. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own chairs or a blanket to sit on.

The Music in the Park concert series is made possible by donations and contributions from local businesses and organizations, including the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council.
