Hyper Alert signup

T he Washington County Department of Public Safety has announced a community sign-up for its “Hyper Alert” emergency notification system.

This feature will allow cell phone and telephone device for the deaf (TDD) users to register their phone numbers with the county. This will link their telephone with the county’s 911 database and when necessary, call or text their phone, notifying them of important public safety information.

Previously, the system was only able to reach “hard line” home phone numbers within the county’s database.

Hyper-reach is a reverse 911 system that is used to communicate public information during an emergency. The system “mass dials” all numbers in its database, targeting specific communities or even streets where an emergency may be occurring. The call provides information about the emergency and instructions for how to respond.

Users will be asked for their names, number and address. For more information, contact the Washington County Department of Public Safety at 747-7520.
