Fire claims vacant building

Several area fire departments responded to a structure fire Friday night on State Route 22 in Middle Granville. Officials believe a shorted entry wire sparked the 1,600-square-foot building around 6 p.m., which used to house a plow truck but has been vacant for 20 years, said Milt Dunbar, Middle Granville’s fire chief.

His department was the first to respond and was aided by Granville, North Granville, West Pawlet and Poultney, Dunbar said. It took firefighters 45 minutes to an hour to put out the fire and an additional hour and a half to finish the clean up.

Dunbar is grateful for the aid his department received.

“Everybody did an excellent job working together,” he said.
