Bundle up and grab a camera for the lighting of the village Christmas tree in Granville on Friday, Nov. 30. The Granville Area Chamber of Commerce has once again organized the event, which takes place in Veterans Park, as a way to bring in the holiday season.

In a special, pre-Christmas appearance, Santa will arrive at 6 p.m. for the official tree-lighting countdown. Afterword, he’ll have a gift for every child that attends.

Steve Saltis, vice president of the chamber, said people have already been getting presents ready. He said the chamber is hoping the event will be a big success.

“We’re really excited for it; we’re hoping the weather will be nice and hoping a lot of people will show up,” Saltis said.

The boys and girls will also have a chance to sit on Santa’s lap and tell him their wishes as parents have a chance to take pictures.

In order to beat the cold, the American Legion, the Auxiliary and the Legion Riders will provide hot cocoa and cookies in the park. Local Boy Scouts will have a fire in a pit to warm merry-makers up as well. The event will last from 6 to 9 p.m.
