Kassi Van Guilder may not be able to give blood, but she’s hoping you can.

The senior at Whitehall High School has organized a blood drive, which will be held from noon to 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, inside the Large Group Instructional Room inside the high school.

The drive will be the second of three Van Guilder has and will organize to fulfill a scholarship requirement.

“I did one this summer and we were able to collect 46 pints. This will be the second and my goal is to get to 50 pints,” said Van Guilder, who was a member of the fall cheerleading squad, spring track team, National Honor Society and National English Honor Society.

Van Guilder said she herself can’t donate blood because she doesn’t meet weight requirements but said healthy adults are more than welcome.

“Kids who are at least 16 years old can donate with parental consent. I don’t know if a lot of people know that,” she said.

Every one donates blood will receive a voucher for a free pound of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee.

Although walk-ins are welcome, anyone who would like to schedule an appointment can do so by calling the school at 499-1770 or Van Guilder at 499-5344.

Donors are encouraged to eat a full meal and drink plenty of fluids before arriving.

A third blood drive is tentatively scheduled to be held this spring.
