Winters sets school record in triple jump

Whitehall’s Morgan Winters set a school record in the indoor triple jump at a league meet held last Friday at Union College.

Winters’ mark of 30 feet 1.5 inches breaks the previous record of 29 feet 7 inches set in 2002 by Melissa Senecal.

The mark is made all the more impressive by the fact it was her first time competing in the event.

An eighth grader, Winters also won the freshmen girls’ 45-meter dash, an event she has dominated this year, and cleared more than 13 feet in the girls’ long jump event.

Haley Wiskoski had a nice day in the girls triple jump with a leap of nearly 26 feet.

Abby Dickinson cleared 4 feet in the women’s high jump and threw the shot put more than 24 feet. Ashley Millett also cleared 4 feet in the high jump and Meghan Redmond threw the shot put almost 18 feet.

The boys were led by Andreas Meyer-Giesow who competed in three events and recorded a leap of more than 27 feet in the men’s triple jump.

Cullen Flynn cleared 7 feet in the men’s high jump and Michael Mattison completed the mens’ 1,600 meter race in 6:27.

The team returns to Union College on Saturday.
