Though never married himself, John knew the meaning of family. He came from a large family and enjoyed his nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews like they were his own. And his siblings lovingly referred to him as “Momma’s boy”. He worked for a number of years doing production work through a CWI program. He liked doing dime pitch but his favorite booth was the food booth. John was never far from his scanner where he kept abreast of all the happenings throughout the village and county without leaving his seat. John liked going for walks, which he took at an extremely fast pace, which earned him the nickname “Zippy”.

John was predeceased by his parents, and a brother Steven. Survivors are his brothers David of North Carolina, Kevin and his wife Amy of Granville, Stacy and his fiancée Denise Moyer of Wells, and his sisters Karen Jones and her husband Tim of Granville, Dawn Mead and her husband Tim of Granville, Penny Sargeant of Whitehall and Margaret of Granville.
