Three grapplers lauded by Adirondack League

T he Adirondack League has announced its wrestling all-stars for the 2012-13 season and three grapplers from Whitehall received recognition for their performances this season.

Al Aubin (120) and John Diekel (138), both of whom qualified for the state tournament and the squad’s only seniors, were named to the team.

Diekel compiled a 42-8 record this year, won the Class D championship for the fifth time and finished as runner up at the Section II championships held in Glens Falls last month.

He finishes his varsity career as one of the school’s most accomplished wrestlers, winning 218 matches.

Aubin went 33-12 this season, finished as runner up at the Class D championship and won the Section II championships. He will graduate in June with 149 varsity wins.

Austin Rich (106), a sophomore, was named to his first all-star team.

Rich finished third at both the Class D and Section II championships.
League coaches choose to select only one team this season. In past year, there has been a first and second team.

The team is selected by league coaches.
