Woman raises funds for autism

A local woman is hoping to generate support for autism awareness and is looking for help from the community.

Khrysta Fiorino and her family and friends will participate in Upstate New York’s Autism Awareness sixth annual “Walk for a Difference” on May 5 at the Moreau Rec. Center in Moreau.

The event is personal for Fiorino whose brother Donnie is autistic and blind.

“We’ve never really done anything like this,” said Christopher Fiorino, Khrysta and Donnie’s father.

The family, which will participate under the name “Team Donnie” has received donations from the local Knights of Columbus, Putorti’s as well as other organizations and individuals and are hoping to receive more.

Anyone who would like to make a donation can send checks to Upstate NY Autism Awareness, C/O Christopher Fiorino, 43 Champlain Avenue, Whitehall, NY 12887.

The event will begin at noon next Sunday.
