Hartford graduates 33

hartford-grad-3Thirty-three students accepted diplomas in the air-conditioned Hartford gymnasium Friday night.

Senior Molly Spear gave the welcome speech, and Valedictorian Rachel Liebig and Salutatorian and Class Secretary Sarah Jo Godnick spoke to the group as well.

Students then handed out flowers to their parents, and in Hartford tradition young flower girls and page boys marched up and gave flowers to female graduates.

Senior Rebecca Holmes gave the Mom and Dad speech, thanking the class’s parents for all their support. The class sang “Hangin’ Around” by the Counting Crows, and the band played Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida.”

Superintendent Andrew Cook also addressed the Hartford Class of 2013, and then read awards along with Bethellen Mannix, elementary principal, and Interim Principal James Polunci.

Brian Getty, president of the board of education, and Cook handed out diplomas to the students, and Jacob Whiting gave a farewell speech. Class Advisor Andrea Stoddard addressed the students as well, talking about Class of 2013 memories.

The commencement closed with a candlelight ceremony, where seniors lit an underclassman’s candle, symbolizing the passing on of knowledge.
