Flynn second at Drive, Chip and Putt event

SPORTS Flynn 2nd at golfCullen Flynn, a freshman at Whitehall High School, finished second overall at a Drive, Chip and Putt qualifying event held Sunday at The Links at Lang Farm in Essex, Vt.

The PGA and USGA sanctioned event tests participants’ skills driving, putting and chipping a golf ball. Each competitor takes several shots from varying distances and are awarded points based on how they do. Those points are then added up to determine who wins.

Flynn finished second overall in the 14 and 15 year old division. He also finished second in the drive portion of the event, hitting the ball more than 230 yards.

Flynn will move on to compete at the regional qualifying event in Plymouth, Massachusetts on Aug. 12. If he finishes among the top two in his age division, he will qualify to attend the National Championships, held at the Augusta National Golf Club next April.

Flynn is a member of the Whitehall Varsity Golf team and was undefeated during his eighth grade year.

Flynn is the son of Heather Plude and Dana Grant.
