Golf team starts season 2-1

Whitehall’s golf team suffered its first loss of the season on Monday after starting the season with two straight wins.

FortAnn defeated Whitehall 3-2 in a match played at Pole Valley Player’s Club.

The Cardinals top three golfers led the way, winning all their matches.

Cody Holmes edged Robby Pereau 4-3; Brandon Nassivera defeated Cullen Flynn 3-1 and Shane Monahan got by Chris Talbert 3-2.

Chad Amerio and Garret Stevens each recorded wins for Whitehall. Amerio slid by Jared Goodemote, 1 up, and Stevens defeated Jake Edwards 2-1.

Nassivera earned medalist honors, shooting a 36, one stroke over par.

The loss drops Whitehall into a 2-1 tie with FortAnn.

The Railroaders had won its previous two matches.

On Sept. 5, Whitehall defeated Fort Edward 3.5 to 1.5 at Pole Valley Player’s Club.

Talbert, Amerio, Stevens and Steven Gosselin all earned wins in the match.

Flynn finished in a tie with Ethan Doty while Pereau was the tough luck loser versus Zack Burkhart.

Pereau shot a 41 but failed to win a single hole as Burkhart earned medalist honors, shooting a 30. The score, which was five strokes below par, was a course record.

A day earlier, on Sept. 4, Pereau led Whitehall to a dramatic win over Lake George.

With the match tied, Pereau bested Gabe Sallstrom on the ninth hole to break a 2-2 tie and seal the victory for Whitehall.

Talbert also recorded a win for the Whitehall and Flynn and Amerio tied their opponents, earning a half point each.

Whitehall hosts Bolton tomorrow at 4 p.m. at Skene Valley Country Club.
