Trek for Hope Sunday in Granville

Whether running far or walking leisurely, there are several ways to take part in the third annual Trek for Hope this Sunday, Oct. 13 in Granville.

The run and walk takes place during the peak foliage in New York and Vermont countryside over a rail trail, country roadways and a covered footbridge. And the event is not only scenic, but also for a good cause.

Participants of all ages may enter to run or walk in a 10K run, 5K run or walk or a 1-mile kids run. The Trek for Hope kicks off from Veterans Park on Quaker Street with a 10K run at 9 a.m.

The 1-mile kids run follows at 9:15 a.m., and the 5K run or walk starts at 10:30 a.m.

Awards will be given for fastest overall male and female runners and by age group categories.

Entry fees are $15 for preregistration or $20 on race day.

Participants ages 18 and younger may register for $10, either in advance or the day of the event, and the first 100 registrants will earn a t-shirt. Registration on the day of the event begins at 8 a.m.

Proceeds from the Trek for Hope benefit the Haynes House of Hope, a nonprofit organization caring for the terminally ill and their families from around the New York and Vermont region.

Registration forms are available on the Haynes House of Hope website, www.thehayneshouseofhope.com and at the following Granville locations: Village of Granville Municipal Center, Granville High School and Scotties.

Checks should be made payable to Haynes House of Hope and mailed with registration form to Haynes House of Hope, c/o Peter O’Brien, P.O. Box 356, Granville, NY 12832. Businesses or individuals wishing to make donations should contact O’Brien at 321-9640 or [email protected]
