The significance of their senior game must’ve rang true for Granville field hockey girls Thursday night as they claimed a 2-0 victory over North Warren at home.

The team celebrated the eight girls that will graduate in the spring before the game started with balloons, flowers and hugs. Mary Bucciero, Jenna Ekhard, Shyanne Griffis, Kelsie Jones, Andrea Kibling, Nicole LaPlante, Shelby McEachron and Josie Sabo all posed with their bouquets and their parents for pictures.

Then they took to the field with a running start in the first half.

Juniors Taylor Scribner and Bri Kelly snagged two goals in the first half with an assist from Jennifer Roberts, which was good enough to seal the win. The Horde defense, combined with goalie Hannah Bassett’s seven saves, was enough to cshut out North Warren.

“Katie (Barber) and I were pleased how well the girls played together yesterday. Everything fell into place,” Coach Jessica Sheldon said.

A day earlier Bassett’s 10 saves in goal weren’t enough to stop Warrensburg from a 5-0 victory on Wednesday.

Within the first 10 minutes the Lady Horde had the ball right at the net but couldn’t quite get it in.

The loss came after a close 1-0 win over Corinth.

Brianna Kelly snagged a goal in the first half, which sealed the win in a game that saw no further scoring. Bassett hold the line in goal with five saves.

Following Thursday’s win, the girls were 4-10 in the league and  5-10 overall.
