Register for Toys for Tots

O rganizers of the local Toys for Tots event are looking to brighten the holidays for local children.

American Legion Post 83 is once again sponsoring the Toys for Tots Program in cooperation with Amtrak and is looking for interested families.

The program is intended for needy children up to age 12, each of whom receives one or two toys that are provided by the Toys for Tots Program and local donations.

To register for the program a parent or guardian must call either Post 83 at 499-2482, after 2

p.m., or Jim Lafayette, event chairman at 499-1150.

The information that is required is the parent’s or guardian’s name and a contact phone number.

Organizers also need the name, age and sex of the child.

Anyone wishing to make donations can drop off new unwrapped toys at the American Legion Post or make a cash donation through the post. Checks should be made payable to American Legion Post 83 with Toys for Tots indicated in the note portion.

The train will be arriving at the Whitehall Amtrak station at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday Dec. 8.

The Toys for Tots Program is run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve. The Whitehall

drop-off is coordinated by the Albany Reserve Unit, working with members of Post 83.

Toys for registered children will be picked up at the Whitehall Volunteer Fire Company at 1 p.m. on the date of the train’s arrival. Photo ID is required for pick up.

Last year 139 needy children were served by the local program.

All are encouraged to attend the arrival of the train. There are many giveaways even Santa Claus makes an appearance.
