Hampton honors Perry and Baker

T he town of Hampton recently paid homage to two outgoing public servants.

The town board passed a proclamation last Wednesday honoring Councilman Dave Perry and highway superintendent Francis Baker.

Both men were attending their final meeting as elected officials and will step down from their respective posts at the end of the year.

Perry has been a member of the town board since 2009 and Supervisor Dave O’Brien said his input has been valued.

“He’s provided some perspective on what’s important to people in the community, especially when it comes to how farmers look at issues. He’s played a important part in maintaining the agricultural environment in the community.” O’Brien said.

Baker has served as highway superintendent for the past 12 years.

“I think his service should be appreciated. What he has done has been remarkable especially in terms of saving money for the town,” O’Brien said.

Besides the proclamation, the town also plans to place a slate plaque in the town hall honoring Baker for his years of service to the community.

“You will be immortalized here forever,” O’Brien joked before those in attendance took a brief recess to enjoy refreshments baked in recognition of the of the evening’s honorees.

Baker lost a bid for reelection earlier this year. He will be replaced by Herb Sady.

Mobile home law

In other matters, Bonnie Hawley, Planning Board Chairperson, said the town’s mobile home law had been submitted to town attorney Matt Fuller to review.

“I don’t expect to hear back from him until next month, but I hope to have the law in front of the board in January,” Hawley said.

The planning board has been working on the law for several months and has used Granville’s law as a guide.

Records room

O’Brien said the town had purchased materials needed to build a room for the storage of materials in the basement of the town hall.

The room will be made of cinder blocks and have a secure door. Construction is expected to commence in the next couple of weeks.
