Three receive tenure in Hartford

T hree Hartford teachers received tenure Monday night at a Board of Education meeting.

The board approved Jessica Lourie for secondary math, Amy Thomas for first grade and Amber Lynch as an elementary education teacher.

During the meeting, Superintendent Andrew Cook discussed the Washington County consortium, which is five area school districts working on collaborating resources. The group recently received a $619,000 grant, which Cook said will be used in several ways.

The schools are looking to have a shared curriculum coordinator/ coach, establish professional learning communities for teachers, establish a partnership with CASDA to provide professional development and establish a partnership with SUNY Plattsburgh to enroll in a teacher leader graduate certificate program.

Also at the meeting, the board approved an overnight field trip for the LAS 110 class to go to Washington to meet with the Peruvian ambassador. Cook said this class, which is offered through SUNY Plattsburgh, is a model Organization of American States.

The board will hold its second budget workshop on Monday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m., to which the public is welcome. The next regular meeting will take place Monday, March 17 at 7 p.m. in the school library.
