Agnes “Aggie” LaMore, 87

A gnes R. “Aggie” LaMore, 87, of Elizabeth Street, passed away at the Glens Falls Hospital on Monday, June 23, 2014, following a brief illness.

Born on July 20, 1926 in Whitehall, she was the sixth of 15 children of the late Roland and Louise (Lewis) Burke.

She was a lifelong resident of Whitehall, attended Whitehall High School and was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church.

On June 30, 1946, she married Lawrence “Mutt” R. LaMore. Her husband passed away on Aug. 3, 1978, and they had two children together, Gary R. LaMore, who passed away on March 17, 2013 and their daughter, Joann Titus, who now lives in Oneonta.

Agnes started in the work force in housekeeping, then on to factory work at the Silk Mill; she was a waitress at the Dairy Bar and Duce’s Restaurant; E. B. Metal as a shop seward; Jumbo’s IGA as a store clerk where she was affectionately known as “Homerand was honored as one of the first clerks of the week by the Whitehall Times; and crossed the finish line of her career with the Hudson Falls-Whitehall office of O.T.B. as a shop seward.

She was a hard worker and was well known by everyone she worked with and the public she served. She was strong willed and opinionated and you knew where you stood with her. She took pride in providing good customer service.

She was an avid bowler, serving 21 years as secretary for two leagues and going with her teams to many bowling tournaments. She also enjoyed golfing with her friend, Joe, at the Skene Valley Country Club. She loved music and loved to dance. She tapped danced in several minstrel shows in Whitehall. She proudly served two terms as president of American Legion Post No.83 Auxiliary. She and her son, Gary, were voracious readers and members of the Isaac Griswold Library.

Besides her parents, her husband and her son, she is predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Joann Titus of Oneonta; her granddaughter, Gunnery Sgt. Melanie Contreni and her husband, Michael of New Berne, N.C.; sister, Ann Brown of Queensbury; brother, Jim Burke and his wife, Elizabeth of Alplaus, N.Y.; and many nieces, nephews, near and far.

A special thank you to her niece, Pat Manor, for all her help last year and this past week.

Family and friends may call at the Jillson Funeral Home, Inc., 46 Williams Street, Whitehall on Friday, June 27, 2014 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, Skene Street, Whitehall with Rev. Liam Condon, officiating.

Interment will be at a later date in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation in Agnes’ name to the Skenesborough Emergency Squad, P. O. Box 333, Whitehall, NY 12887, Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, 9 Wheeler Avenue, Whitehall, NY 12887 or the Isaac Griswold Library, 12 Williams Street, Whitehall, NY 12887.
