Fireworks to launch July 10

If you didn’t get your fill of fireworks last weekend, this evening could be your final chance.
The Village of Granville will host its fireworks display tonight following the Harold Ford and the Cash Band performance.
Last week’s performance had to be canceled in light of a forecast that was predicting, and later delivered, strong winds and violent thunderstorms, but officials were able to reschedule the show for this weekend.
“It’s the same show, just a different time,” Denise Davies, deputy village clerk, said.
The fireworks, which are sponsored by the village and private donations, will be launched from the Little League complex shortly after nightfall, approximately 9:45 p.m.
The Little League Fields will be one of the best vantage points for tonight’s show, but the display should be visible throughout the community and will be dubbed to music.
Preceding the fireworks, will be a performance by Harold Ford and the Cash Band, beginning at 7 p.m. at Granville Veterans’ Memorial Park.
Ford, a Greenwich resident, is one of the preeminent Johnny Cash tribute artists in the country and his performance in Granville last year was one of the most well attended concerts of the summer. He possesses an eerie vocal and physical resemblance to Johnny Cash and Laura Lucy, portraying June Carter, adds to the authenticity of the show. Joining them on stage is the Cash Band, consisting of Sten Isachsen on guitar, Mitch Throop on upright bass and drummer Peter Maine.
Tonight’s concert will be augmented by the Mettowee Valley Ecumenical Council’s annual strawberry social and the Granville Masons Chicken Barbecue.
Admission to tonight’s concert is free and the concert series is supported by regional business, local organizations and the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council.
