Mechanicville runs over Horde

Mechanicville ran by and over Granville last Friday in Mechanicville.
The Horde surrendered 385 rushing yards and six touchdowns in a 40-8 loss to Mechanicville.
The Red Raiders were dominant in all facets of the game as they compiled 526 yards of offense and held Granville to 107 total yards in the game.
Chase Delossantos led Mechanicville with 312 yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries and Brandon Russell scored touchdowns on two of his six carries.
“They took it to us offensively, defensively and on special teams,” Torres said. “They played fast, physical football and were well coached. We missed 41 tackles, which is very uncharacteristic of us. Part of it was they had a very good running back, but they also beat us physically at the point of attack.”
Mechanicville surged out of the gates, scoring 33 first half points.
Russell put Mechanicville on the board with a seven-yard run less than four minutes into the game and Delossantos scored his first touchdown on a five-yard run with nine seconds remaining in the first quarter.
Granville appeared destined to claw its way back into the game, as quarterback Jacob Young capped the ensuing drive with a four-yard scoring run to cut the lead to 13-8. But that’s as close as Granville ever got. Less than 30 seconds later, Delossantos took the handoff and sprinted 62 yards to make the score 20-7 and the Red Raiders would add two more scoring runs later in the quarter.
“It was a 13-8 football game in the second quarter, but we couldn’t find a way to seize the momentum. The momentum was going our way. We drove down the length of the field and scored and then two plays later they break off a big run and the wheels kind of fell off,” Torres said.
Granville struggled to get any offense going. Ronnie Taylor led Granville with 40 rushing yards and Young finished 6 for 15 for 43 yards.
“We didn’t play well along the offensive line. If you can’t block, you’re not going to be able to run the football and if you can’t run you’re going to have problems getting the passing game going,” Torres said.
Granville will now prepare to host Corinth (1-1) on Saturday in a game the team is a calling a “must win.”
“We’re treating it like a Sectional playoff game. We only pay five league games and we’re 0-1 and they’re 1-0,” Torres said.
The Tomahawks are coming off a 43-12 non-league loss to Schuylerville, but won its season opener versus Lake George-Hadley Luzerne 43-0. Corinth, which lost to Granville last season by a score of 48-22, return eight starters on offense and eight starters of defense from a team that went 6-3.
The team runs a flexbone offense led by quarterback Chantz Baudoux and running backs Alex Jenkins, Anthony Abare and Tyler McCarty. Jenkins and Abare are both speed backs who have the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield and Torres said Baudoux has a good grasp of the offense in his second year.
“He’s a multi threat. He can run and throw,” Torres said. “We are going to have to be disciplined and play team defense.”
Kickoff for Saturday’s game is at 1 p.m.
