Boys hoops fall in season opener

Greenwich’s ability to hit the outside shot sunk Granville in its season opener Friday night.

The Witches hit 11 3-pointers on their way to a 78-57 win over the visiting Horde.

Granville-native John Stewart did most of the damage, hitting seven 3-pointers on his way to a 23-point effort. He was one of four Greenwich players to score in double figures.

Granville hit seven 3-pointers in the game and were led by Cordell Kilburn who scored 18 points. Matt Fuller and Jacob Young scored 16 and 15 points, respectively.

The Witches stormed out of the games, outscoring Granville in the first half 47-30. The Horde played better in the second half, scoring 27 points while holding Greenwich to 31 points.

Granville saw its first two games of the season, versus Hudson Falls on Tuesday and Tamarac Wednesday, canceled because of last week’s nor-easter.

The Horde (0-1) will be back in action Friday night against Mechanicville before hosting Salem next Tuesday.
