Boys’ hoops handed first loss

After leaping out to a 2-0 start, the Whitehall boys’ basketball team was grounded at North Warren, 65-43.

To say the Railroaders got off to a slow start might be an understatement, as the Cougars jumped out to a 20-2 lead to start the game. The lead would prove too much for the Railroaders to overcome.

Four Cougars found themselves in double figures when it was all said and done, as Nick Sapienza dropped 19 points, Darren Granger and Colby May each added 15 and Hayden Smith racked up 10 points.

The Railroaders played well in the following three quarters, staying within four points of North Warren each quarter, but the 20-2 first quarter deficit clearly hurt Whitehall’s hopes.

Two Railroaders scored in double figures, Justin Hoagland with 19 and Dan St. Clair with 11.

North Warren advances to 3-1 on the season, while the Railroaders drop to 2-1.

Whitehall hosted Salem on Tuesday, after this edition of the Times was already out.
