All-star game for Milletts

By Dan King Millett goes to Allstar game

Whitehall-native Justin Millett, offensive lineman for the Glens Falls Green Jackets, represented his team at the Minor League All-Star Game in Las Vegas on Dec. 6, joined by teammates Kevin Caradonna, a fullback from Corinth, and Jake Wilde, a tight end from Queensbury.

Millett’s grandfather, John, a longtime football coach at Whitehall High School, also attended the game as a coach.

“My grandfather and I flew out Wednesday night and made a sort of mini-vacation out of it,” Millett said. “It’s actually my first-ever all-star game; it’s pretty rewarding after all these years of playing football.”

The game was played at Las Vegas’ Chapel High School and some college and arena football scouts were on hand to check out the talent.

“It was definitely different going from Whitehall to downtown Las Vegas,” Millett said. “It was wild, it was fun to visit, but I would never want to live in a big city.”

Millet started for the all-stars and played the entire game at center.

“We only practiced for six total hours, two three-hour practices,” he said. “But they were get-down-to-business type of practices. The team we played was a championship team that regularly plays and practices together, and we gave them a heck of a game.”

The all-stars kept it close against the North Bay Rattlers, dropping the game, 20-15.

John Millett, trainer for the Green Jackets, coached his grandson a bit in the game.

Justin Millett, who is also a volunteer assistant coach for Whitehall’s football team, said he plans to continue playing for the Green Jackets.

“Hopefully everything works out and I can play again next season,” he said.
