Town approves fire contracts

The town of Granville approved contracts last week with each of the community’s three fire department.

Each department will receive a small increase in their allotment from the town.

The Penrhyn Engine and Hose Co. will provide fire protection in the Middle Granville Fire District at a cost of $80,019, an increase of $1,569 over last year’s figure.

The North Granville Hose Co. will do the same in the North Granville fire district at a cost of $63,144. That represents a $1,450 increase.

And the Granville Engine and Hose Co. will cover the South Granville district for a cost of $63,356, or $1,242 more than it received last year.

The agreement with the Granville Engine and Hose Co. is contingent on approval by the village, but town officials don’t expect that to be a problem.

A brief public hearing on the contracts was held before the board voted to approve the agreements, but no one spoke.

All the contract are good for one year.

The figures had already been including in the town’s 2015 budget and Supervisor Matt Hicks said the approval was largely a formality.

A public hearing on proposed changes to the town’s Right to Farm Law will be held tonight at 7 p.m. and will be followed by the town’s annual organizational meeting.
