A woman in the midst of an 8,000 mile transcontinental journey astride a horse will present a slide show on her trip next week at the Orchard Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
The presentation will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28.
Bernice Ende is a teacher who decided to spend her retirement traveling across the United States on horseback.
In 2005, after joining an equestrian group called the “Long Riders,” Ende embarked on a 2,000 mile trip from her home in Trego, Mt. to Albuquerque, N.M. In the ensuing years she has traveled 21,500 miles over eight separate rides.
She is currently on an 8,000-mile trip from Montanan to Maine and back to the Pacific coast through Canada. The route, on which she embarked in April, will take 2.5 years and rank among the longest horseback rides in American history.
She arrived in eastern New York earlier this fall and even passed through Granville. She is spending the winter in Fort Edward before continuing her trip this spring.
During the presentation, Ende will discuss her trip and share images taken along the way.
The presentation is open to the public and there is no charge.
