Two close losses for boys’ hoops

The Whitehall boys’ basketball team lost two games by a combined nine points last week.

On Friday evening, the Railroaders traveled to Corinth to do battle with a talented Tomahawks team.

Despite getting off to a very slow start and a 21-5 deficit, the Railroaders came storming back to narrow the gap to 52-51.

Unfortunately, the comeback would not be enough to overcome the early deficit for the Railroaders.

Whitehall would ultimately drop the game by a final of 60-54.

In a rare event, Justin Hoagland, Evan St. Claire and Dan St. Clair were all held to single digit scoring.

However, the Railroaders received 21 points from Justin McDonald, who hit six 3-pointers, and received 16 points from Brian McLaughlin, who hit four 3-pointers.

Brandon Drollette and Robert Shippee recorded double figures for Corinth, with 16 points and 12 points, respectively.

Two days prior, the Railroaders took on the Fort Edward Flying Forts. For the second time in as many matchups between the two, it was a barnburner of a game, coming down to the final seconds of regulation.

The Forts ultimately came out victorious with a 67-64 win in Whitehall.

The first time around, the Forts were almost solely led by junior guard Chris Boucher, this time Boucher received some offensive support.

Boucher scored 27 points and three other Forts added double figures, Dylan Heroux had 16, and Dan Courtney and Dan Herring added 10 apiece.

St. Clair led the Railroaders with 19 points; St. Claire continued his impressive play since being called up from JV, by adding 15; Hoagland and McLaughlin recorded 14 and 10 points, respectively.

The losses drop Whitehall to 4-6 in the league and 5-7 overall. The Railroaders host Hadley-Luzerne tonight, JV tips off at 5:30 p.m. and varsity will follow at 7 p.m.
