Bascue top finisher for U.S.

Sunday wasn’t a great day for the U.S. National Bobsled Team, but Whitehall-native Codie Bascue did pilot his team to the best U.S. finish.

Bascue, along with teammates Alex Harrison, Adam Clark and David Cremin, finished with the best time of any U.S. team at the World Cup event in St. Moritz, Switzerland. The team finished 12th with times of 1:05.91 and 1:05.49.

“Codie has been a nice surprise this season,” Head Coach Brian Shimer said. “He’s made some great gains as an athlete and he’s helping push the veterans on the team … Codie is only 20 and he’s hungry to be here.”

The other two American teams finished in 14th and 15th place.

A Latvian team took gold at the event, while German teams took both the silver and the bronze.

The next World Cup event will take place in La Plagne, France, and will be the sixth of eight stops on the tour.
