Rotary trivia night this weekend

The community’s brightest minds will compete Saturday to determine who has the greatest knowledge of trivia.

The Granville Rotary Club will host its annual trivia contest on Jan. 31 at the Granville Hook and Ladder Fire Company on Quaker Street.

The event pits a number of teams against each other and tests knowledge of both general and local trivia.

The competition has been a big hit in recent years, drawing teams from both Granville and beyond.

This year’s event will feature teams chaired by local businesses and organizations. Both the Pember Library and Museum and the Slate Valley Museum are expected to be represented. As will the region’s politicians. Supervisors Brian Campbell (Hebron), Matt Hicks (Granville), Dana Haff (Hartford), Dave O’Brien (Hampton) and Robert Henke (Argyle) will all compete as a team. The Granville and Fort Ann

Rotary Clubs will also field teams.

Last year’s champions, “Looking Upward,” a team consisting of local clergy, will be back to defend its title.

The competition will feature five rounds and members of the winning team will receive prizes and free admission into next year’s event.

Although it’s too late to register, spectators are invited to attend and watch.

The Hook and Ladder Fire Department will be cooking and serving hot dogs, hamburgers and other food.

And drinks, including beer and wine will be available.

The cost to attend is $15.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Rotary Club and its charitable endeavors.
