A pair of Granville wrestlers will compete this weekend for a chance to advance to the New York State Championships later this month in Albany.

Bailey Daigle and Jody Hermance finished within the top four of their weight class at the Section II, Class C tournament Saturday at Coxsackie Athens High School to advance to this Section II state qualifiers, to be held Friday and Saturday at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Daigle navigated a competitive field at 170 pounds to finish third. He won his consolation finals by pinning his opponent in the second period of their match.

Hermance also won his match in the consolation finals, needing only 32 seconds to do so.

Both will now compete for a chance to advance to the state tournament. In order to advance to states, a wrestler needs to win his weight class at Sectionals. A number of at-large bids are granted to wrestlers who don’t win their weight class, based on their record and performance throughout the season.

As a team, Granville finished 11th out of 12 teams with 69 points. Hadley-Luzerne/Lake George won the team title with 239 points. Six wrestlers from the team won individual titles. Hoosick Falls was second with 184 points and Tamarac was third with 141 points.

Sectionals will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Civic Center. They continue at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
